Men's Suit Sizing Guide: How to Find Your Size

Buying a suit online is easy once you understand how sizing works. Here's a straightforward guide from the team at Mario Barutti.

Understanding the size number

Men's suit jackets are sized by a number — 46, 48, 50 and so on. This roughly corresponds to your chest measurement in centimetres divided by two. As a rule of thumb: measure around the fullest part of your chest, keep the tape level, and don't pull it tight.

What is “drop”?

Drop is the difference between the jacket (chest) size and the trouser (waist) size. A “drop 6” suit, for example, pairs a chest with a waist 6 sizes smaller — a more tapered, athletic cut. A smaller drop suits a fuller build. Our suits are cut in modern drops for a clean, contemporary line.

How to measure yourself at home

  • Chest: around the fullest part, under the arms, tape level.
  • Waist: around your natural waistline, where your trousers normally sit.
  • Sleeve: from the shoulder seam to the wrist bone.
  • Shoulder: across the back, from one shoulder edge to the other.

Compare your measurements to the size chart on each product page and our Size Guide.

When you're between sizes

If you fall between two sizes, size up — it's far easier to take a garment in than to let it out. That's where our atelier comes in.

The final step: tailoring

No two men are built exactly alike, which is why we finish every suit with an in-house fitting. Our master tailors adjust sleeves, waist, trouser length and more at our Dubai atelier so the suit fits you precisely — not just approximately.
